Leveling Up

Leveling up is always confusing. Here’s an easy guide.

Pick Your Class

You have the option of either leveling up an existing class or picking a new one. If you pick a new one, you start back at level one for that class, keeping all of your levels in your existing classes. For example, a LVL 4 Fighter can become a LVL 5 Fighter OR a LVL 4 Fighter / LVL 1 Bard, where as Bard could be any available class.

If you pick a new class, you gain all the benefits of a first level of that class. This could mean new weapon proficiencies, new feats, new spells and so on. Be sure to check the boxes for new skills you have as class skills.

Favored Classes

Every character gets at least one “favored class”. Every time you level up in this class, you get to pick an added skill point OR added hitpoint. If you level up in your character’s favord class, pick one and allocate it. Some races, such as half-elves, can have two favored classes and gain a point when picking either.

Hit Points (Every Level)

Based on your character class, you can roll a specific die for added hit points. For example, if you were leveling up in Fighter you would roll a d10 die and add the result to your existing total hit points.

Base Attack Bonus and Saves (Every Level)

Look at you classes and combine the totals for your BAB and base Reflex, Will and Fortitude saves. If you have only one character class, this is very easy. Simply check the class rules to find the values. If you have multiple classes, you combine the totals to determine your score.

Attributes (Level 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 Only)

Every four levels, you can increase one of your attributes by a point.

Skills

Each level, the character gets a base number of skill points that is dependent on the class. More or less skills are given based on the character’s Intelligence modifier. For example, a Fighter gets a base of 2 skill points per level. If they have an Intelligence rank of 12, that adds a +1 intelligence modifier to the total. This means that he would get 3 skill points to allocate. Place those skills points in the rank column of your skills table.

Please note: no skill can have a higher rank than the character level. A level 5 character can only have a max rank of 5 in any one skill.

Feats (Odd Levels Only)

Every odd level, you can pick a new feat in addition to any inherent feats awarded due to your class. Make sure you meet all the prerequisites for a feat.

Spells

Some classes may gain new spells at each level. Please consult the rules for your class and make selections accordingly.

Class Powers

Some classes gain new abilities, powers or feats at certain levels. Refer to the rulebook to find the details for your class.

Rounding it all out

Based on new skills, feats, attributes and so on, your character’s secondary stats may have been affected. Armor class, skill with weapons and more might have all been improved. Review your changes and fill in all the appropriate modifiers on the sheet.

You should now be all set!
